Pixi Collagen toner review – Get Rid of Smile Lines
Want to get rid of smile lines? Get a collagen toner they said. As I age, my smile lines have become a source of insecurity. Botox isn’t a viable option for me. $10 a vial? An average of $300 per session? No, thank you. As I looked for alternatives, collagen was an active ingredient that kept popping up. So I took a leap of faith. Collagen is a protein naturally present in our bodies. Basically, it is one of the contributing factors to elastic – read youthful – skin.
About Pixi collagen toner
Pixi is a brand that I have tried in recent years. I love their retinol toner so I decided to give their collagen boosting toner a try. The toner comes in a light brown bottle that comes in 2 sizes: 100 ml ($15) and 200ml ($29). A little goes a long way so either size will last you a long time. I religiously used their 100 ml retinol toner and it lasted me at least 6 months.
The Pixi botanical collagen tonic is a water-based toner infused with coconut water. It is cruelty-free as well as alcohol and paraben-free. Here is a breakdown of its main ingredients:
- Acacia Collagen: Plant-derived protein that provides hydration + creates a protective film that reduces moisture loss
- Peptides: Piece of protein from animal collagen
- Coconut water: Increases hydration thanks to its sugar and amino acids
Why should you use collagen toner? Well, according to Dr. Vanita Rattan, applying collagen topically is better than ingesting it because you are targeting the specific area you want the collagen peptides to go. Our organs use collagen to function, therefore, our body will distribute all collagen intake to different parts of the body. On the other hand, applying it topically puts the peptides where you want them to go.
How to apply this toner
Pixi suggests using it on a daily basis after cleansing. Use a cotton pad to apply it to your face, neck, and decolletage but avoid your eye area. Apply the toner after cleansing but before applying your moisturizer/SPF.
My opinion on the pixi collagen tonic
Two words: it works. I started applying it with an open mind and zero expectations. Now almost 3 weeks later, I wish I started using it sooner.
Here are the improvements I’ve noticed:
- Overall skin: My skin now has a soft glow, has more volume, and feels bouncier. My skin has been looking good these past few months but I did notice it looking healthier after using this particular tonic. Overall, I would agree that my skin looks younger.
- Fine lines: My smile lines have significantly diminished. So has the fine lines on my forehead. My skin definitely looks smoother. I have also noticed that my foundation creases less around my smile lines area.
- Hyperpigmentation: As collagen promotes skin rejuvenation, I have noticed a difference in the appearance of my acne scars. While still present, they have considerably faded. My skin looks more even.
The Pixi collagen toner played well with my other skincare products (cleanser and sunscreen). I did not notice any skin irritation while using this product. It also did not make my skin any oilier or dryer.
Not to take anything away from the Pixi retinol tonic but I found myself gravitating more towards the collagen toner. As it is never too early – or late- to wake up with glowy skin, I would recommend this toner to everybody. This product will remove some years off your skin, not irritate you and ameliorate the appearance of your wrinkles. What more could you ask for?
