PRO FILT’R SOFT MATTE POWDER FOUNDATION REVIEW
As usual, Rihanna made sure to come for our coins with the new Fenty Beauty powder foundation. I prefer powder foundation for everyday wear and was actually in the market for one so I was very excited about this product. I tested it out so that you don’t have to and here is my review.
About the Foundation
Similar to the liquid foundation, this compact powder comes in 50 shades! It is a buildable light to full coverage powder foundation. It has a soft matte finish and is crease-resistant. That means that you can go about your day looking flawless! This new Fenty Beauty gem will set you back $32, which is fairly priced for a powder foundation.
The gist according to Fenty Beauty :
- Longwear, light-as-air, no flashback
- Blur Filt’r complex to deliver the ultimate, blurred finish
- Sweat-, humidity-, and crease-resistant
- Buildable, light to full coverage formula that loves to be layered
- Won’t settle into fine lines, clog pores or cake up
- Reduces the appearance of shine
- Chic, portable powder compact fits in hand
As always, Fenty Beauty always hit the mark when it comes to packaging. Just like their other products, the powder foundation comes in a honeycomb-like shape. On the other hand, it is smaller than their other powder products such as their bronzer. This makes it the perfect size to haul with you in your trendy mini bag!
How To Apply Powder Foundation Step by step
As powder foundations have not been trendy in recent years, I thought we should go through the basics. Plus, I know that the application order can be confusing. Here is how you should apply your powder foundation:
- Prime (after moisturizing)
- Fill in your eyebrows with your product of choice
- Apply concealer under your eyes and wherever you have discoloration.
- Apply your powder foundation with a flat top brush in patting motions for the most opaque finish
- (Optional) If you want to brighten your under-eye area, use a brightening powder like Fenty Beauty Instant Retouch powder. I use the shade Honey.
- Define your face with a powder such as MAC Blunt blush under your cheekbones, your jawline, and the perimeter of your forehead.
- (Optional) Apply some blush on the apple of your cheeks
- Intensify your gaze with a few coats of mascara
Pro Tip: Powder foundations come in various shades and undertones. When shade matching, always go for the undertone first then look for a shade that’s closest to your skin tone. Just like you would with a liquid foundation!
Another Pro Tip: Use a concealer the closest shade to your skintone for a flawless look.
I love powder foundations because they make it so easty to look extra cute in a record amount of time. They are much more convenient to carry around than a liquid foundation and they make touch-ups much easier too.
Fenty Beauty Powder Foundation Review
I wear the shade 410 in the Fenty Beauty liquid foundation but I did hear through the grapevine that the powder foundation applied a bit dark so I opted for the shade 390. The shade 410 is not my perfect match anyway so going a shade lighter did not bother me. On the other hand, I was a bit apprehensive because I tried the Soft Matte foundation in the shade 390 and found it to be too yellow for me.
After wearing the PRO FILT’R SOFT MATTE POWDER FOUNDATION for a few days here is all you need to know:
- Keeps you matte for hours
- Shade accurately described
- natural finish
- Feel lightweight on the skin
- sleek compact packaging
- will not break you out
- hard to build up
- hard to pick up with a brush
Should you get this powder foundation?
If you are someone with a lot of hyperpigmentation and are looking for a full coverage powder foundation, this is not for you. Although advertised as a light to full coverage foundation, I find this powder to be light to medium coverage. I used a flat top foundation brush and found it hard to pick up the powder. I got the same results with a fluffy brush as well. Unfortunately, this makes building up this powder foundation to a medium coverage a chore.
As for the shade match, shade 390 is described as medium deep with warm yellow undertones. I found this to be an accurate description of both the shade and skin tone. As I‘ve documented several times on the blog, my face is darker than the rest of my body with my forehead remarkably the darkest area. That said, the PRO FILT’R SOFT MATTE POWDER FOUNDATION in the shade 390 is the perfect medium. The foundation is light enough to blend in with my neck but dark enough to dust on my forehead without looking ashy.

On another note, the Fenty Beauty powder foundation is perfect for people with oily skin. It will keep you matte for hours as it absorbs oil well. Even though it will not cover ALL your acne scars and hyperpigmentation, it is the perfect product to take on the go. It covers enough to give you a beautiful and even base.
The lifestyle that I live does not require me to wear makeup for a long period of time, however, I did wear this powder foundation for a full day. Both outdoors and indoors. I can definitely say that it is a long-wear product that you won’t need to reapply. My makeup looked pretty good by the end of the day. I did notice some areas on my cheek where I COULD have re-applied but it was not necessary.
The Fenty Beauty PRO FILT’R SOFT MATTE POWDER FOUNDATION is a great product that caters to a wide range of skin tones and that is easy to carry around. I recommend it to everybody who is looking for a face product that will have them looking great without the hustle of putting on a full face of makeup.
